Attorney Hesse Represents Officer Involved in Fatal Shooting of Childress Suspect

|

On Friday, March 23rd, 2018, a suspect fled from police after being sighted driving more than 100 miles per hour and without lights on in the dark. The suspect attempted to evade police throughout a long chase that crossed multiple counties. He only slowed after hitting a spike strip placed by police officials.

After running from his vehicle, he was confronted while trying to break into a building. When the suspect wielded a firearm menacingly, the police were forced to open fire, fatally striking the suspect. He passed away from his wounds after being taken to a hospital with emergency transport.

The police shooting incident has gained the attention of the Texas Rangers, who are usually tasked to investigate any fatal police shooting, regardless of the details. In order to ensure they are properly represented and their rights as police officers engaging in a dangerous situation are upheld, one of the responding sheriff deputies who fatally shot the suspect has retained the legal services of Attorney Chris Hesse.

Known throughout the state as a powerful defender and legal representative, Attorney Hesse of The Law Offices of D. Chris Hesse in Amarillo will assist the sheriff deputy during ongoing investigations. If the incident leads to a complaint or case that goes before the court, Attorney Hesse is expected to act as the officer’s legal representative in this capacity as well. The Texas Rangers are still conducting their investigation with the assistance of the Childress Police Department, the Donley County sheriff’s office, and the Childress County sheriff’s office. It is not known at this time if the Texas Rangers have reason to believe misconduct was carried out by the police officers.
